Gabriel Galvez Dance

Gabriel is a dance performer who tells stories that he feels need to be told, bringing awareness to the unsaid, breaking silences and showcasing the power of conversation through the medium of dance. His films are powerful and at times hard-hitting but they hold a sensitivity too. Gabriel also works with elders and people living with Parkinson’s and as he’s applying for arts funding we needed to showcase the full breadth of his work.

Gabriel is Mexican and speaks English incredibly well but had a block around writing any copy for the site. I decided the best way to tackle it was to spend time with him, ask him questions, get him to talk about dance, what it meant to him, his work and his experiences etc. I recorded our conversations, transcribed them and then wrote the copy for the site. I wanted to capture what dance means to Gabriel and was delighted when he said I’d done just that.

The first time I met Caroline we had a long conversation; not only about the prospect of making my website, but we also talked about life. I talked about my barriers to expressing myself, as English is not my first language. I’m from Mexico and, funnily enough, she speaks some Spanish, which was really helpful. I immediately felt she was someone I could trust. Caroline has all the sensitivity you could wish for, and she knows how to listen.
Finding Caroline really was a gift. She made such a huge difference to my existing blog, which had not been updated for a long time.
There was the extra challenge of incorporating my new work into the website. Part of that work is about the role dance plays in coming to terms with trauma. That’s why it was so important for me to find someone I could trust.
Caroline also helped me to overcome some barriers in my writing, to better articulate my ideas, even to create new content and to expand my thoughts and ideas.
Working with Caroline has been a very comfortable and inspiring process. Throughout our conversations, she gathered information and made notes, which she then later incorporated into the website. I was amazed and so grateful for the way she was able to respect everything I shared. But she also has the ability to bring her own interpretation and appreciation, which I feel enhances my work. I would definitely recommend her work. She has a magic box of tools, together with her heart-warming touch to make your work shine in the best light.
